Three days a week I work at ff daycare centre which is the most enjoyable of the projects I'm involved in.
A typical day begins by picking the children up (the number of children increases with the number of volunteers), starting off with music, singing and movement and then straight into snack time. After their bellys are full it is shower time which is always crazy, busy and filled with giggles and talcum powder. Depending on what day it is, the children then have free play with the different toys and activities available (we use this time for one on one interaction and stimulation) or there is an activity planned by us volunteers. I will blog about the different activities we aim to complete because we have lots of different and fun ones planned and can't wait to do them with the children.
Next it is lunch time, we have been trying to get as many of the children feeding themselves as much as possible. Last week the girl i was teaching finally picked it up and fed herself completely independently! I was so happy and excited and so was she. We both did a happy dance together giggling. The look and joy on her face was priceless! Now she is so happy and excited for all meal times with us because she gets to feed herself. The children are then wiped down due to the fact that they are covered in noodles and rice haha. Half of the children are then brought back to the wards while some stay all day at daycare and have rest time on their beds. During this time we get to have our lunch break.
During the afternoon we pick up more children and again depending on what day it is we start of with snacks and then either have outdoor play, go to the adventure room and hopefully in the next few weeks get to take some children swimming! By the end of all of this we have no energy left and bring the children back and then clean up before heading back home. Here are a few snaps so far of some activities and play I've done with the children.
Tickles and playing with blocks
Water play
More building with blocks... or should i say knocking them all over
Concentrating...
Just after our happy dance!
Looking forward to sharing with you all the fun i get to enjoy with the children
