Weekend in Kanchanaburi

This past weekend some of us volunteers decided to take a trip down to Kanchanaburi to get away for a couple of nights. After about a 3 hour drive we arrived and decided to head out for a realxing night enjoying dinner, each others company and even making some reggae music. We enjoyed getting from our hostel to the cafe strip in the back of a ute thanks to the crazy Thai drivers...

The next morning we were up early for breakfast and then crammed into a tiny bus for 2 hours to head to Erewan National Park. It wasn't the most enjoyable bus ride, no air flow, hot, crowded and having to stand the whole time... but it was all worth it in the end.

We spent the whole day walking through the Rainforest enjoying the beautiful pools and waterfalls. There were so many! We were even able to swim in or slide into most of them which was lovely and refreshing after walking around so much. I didn't enjoy getting nibbled by the millions of fish in some of the pools though but everyone else semed to find my reaction quite entertaining haha. We then headed back to our hostel by the Kanchanaburi river and enjoyed another meal out altogether.

On our last day we went and explored some museums and the famous Kanchanaburi Bridge. Prisoners of war during World War 2 were forced to build the 258-mile Death Railway by Japanese forces. About a hundred thousand Asian labourers and 16,000 prisoners of war died on the whole project. While walking through the markets we stumbled across a leopard! I got to pat and feed him and he even nibbled my finger. We then were all fairly tired by the end of our little adventure so headed back home.

Now it is back to work, looking forward to another busy week! I have quite a few activities planned with the children so look forward to sharing them with you all.

Until then, have a great week Xx
